Kokua
and Volunteer!
Thank
you for wanting to assist Hawaiian Roots. We are always
wanting new things to add to the website that would be helpful
for all Hawaiian researchers. Make this site what you want
it to be by volunteering!
|
Wanted:
Everything!
1.
Immigrant ship lists to Hawaii.
You
may choose one from the Portuguese ships listed on this
page or your own. We have been requested by a visitor
to the website for a ship list from the Rio de Janeiro ship from
Puerto-Rico on 23 Dec 1900.
2.
Hawaii Censuses
Any
census would be useful. It may be limited to one county.
3.
Hawaiian Language Translator - We have received a
request from a visitor to the website who would like to
know the meanings of their ancestors' Hawaiian
names. If you are knowledgeable of the Hawaiian
language, I may refer people to you. Any other
suggestions from you may be considered.
4.
Cemetery Transcriptions
5.
Obituaries
6.
If you have anymore suggestions, please email me at webmaster@hawaiian-roots.com
|
Whatever
you may want to transcribe, whether it be a ship list, a census
or anything else that you may want to do, first, you must make
sure that the one you would like to transcribe is not already on
the website. You
do not have to join anything, pay anything or commit to a
specific number of lists in order to volunteer. You decide
how many lists, how often you would like to volunteer and how
long of a time it will take you to transcribe a list. Your
time and hard work is well appreciated!
If
you are not sure where to find a list, consult your nearest
archives or library for assistance. Once you have acquired
a list, please type it as TEXT in any word editor. Once
you are finished, save it as a TEXT FILE (*.txt where * is
replaced with the name of your file.) For instance, if you
want to name your file "census1900," you would save it
as "census1900.txt"
Please
keep the lists in single rows and do not use columns or tabs
when typing your list. However, you may use commas to separate
fields.
FOR
EXAMPLE:
1.
Amelia Augusta Pereira, Married, 20 yrs
2.
Joao, son, 2 1/2 yrs
3.
Joao Pereira Camacho, Married, 33 yrs
4.
Maria de Jesus, Wife, 33 yrs
It
may also be good to number each list.
Once
you have saved it, proofread the list and you feel it is
complete, you may send it to me as an attachment of an
email. I will take care of the rest!
If you would like to volunteer,
please email me at webmaster@hawaiian-roots.com
with your name, what you would like to transcribe, tell me how
it will help Hawaiian researchers and your email address.
Thank you for assisting all Hawaiian
Researchers! |
